Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS FIRST SATURDAY LIME?

First Saturday Lime is a monthly insect repellent. It is eco-friendly, non-flammable, and has no known health hazards.

HOW DOES FSL WORK?

It is a super strong formula derived from eco-friendly products. It has the ability to dry out insects, eggs and larvae by clogging up the spiracles insects use to breathe and eventually dehydrating them. It creates an inhospitable place for insects to reproduce and thus they leave the area. It is effective as a treatment for infestations, as well as a prevention.

WHICH INSECTS DOES FSL REPEL?

Our product can be used to repel any insects with an exoskeleton. This includes but is not limited to ants, fleas, ticks, mites, lice, aphids, beetles, roaches, earwigs, etc. It can also be used to prevent mosquito growth in water troughs and ponds. Also, many bee farms use our product under their hives to prevent small hive beetles.

DOES FSL REPEL SNAILS OR SLUGS?

Yes, our product works great against slugs and snails.

DOES FSL WORK FOR TICKS?

You can use our product in a yard spreader on the lowest setting to cover the whole yard then wait two days before watering. Our product creates an undesirable dry environment and kills larvae while being safe when used as directed for kids and pets. It’s best to treat your yard monthly to disrupt the lifecycle.

Is FSL safe to be around for small animals? (chickens, ducks, cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters)

Yes, First Saturday Lime is safe for animals of any size to touch or have near a feeding source when used as directed.

Is FSL safe around pets? What if they lick it off?

Yes, lime is safe for pets when used as directed, even if accidentally ingested.

What happens after it rains?

The product is insoluble so it dries back out and is again effective. Check the area once a month (like the first Saturday of the month!) and reapply if necessary.

Where is First Saturday Lime available?

First Saturday Lime is only available within the United States. First Saturday Lime is not available in Canada or any other country at this time but we hope to expand in the future!

What is in FSL?

FSL is primarily 2 types of lime: hydrated lime and citric acid from limes that has been specially treated with our Patent Pending process to be insoluble and safe when used as directed. All of our elements are considered to be eco-friendly and approved for use on food contact and food preparation surfaces. In the U.S., the Food and Drug Administration has Affirmed our ingredients to be GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe). We’ve taken the extra step to get our product tested to ensure we exceed purity requirements to deliver the most effective formula that’s safe when used as directed for your family, gardens, ponds, pets and animals. Click on the Contact Us link below to inquire about specific regulations, or check out our MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) by clicking here.

How is FSL different from diatomaceous earth?

First Saturday Lime is a solution for those who are looking for a non-silica based insect repellent.

How is FSL different from garden lime or hydrated lime that I can find in stores?

Garden lime is very safe, but is full of impurities, which dilute it and cause it to be too weak to be effective. Hydrated lime is very strong and would be an effective pest control, but reacts with moisture which results in burns for humans and animals when in contact with skin or mucous membranes (mouth, nose, eyes). FSL is safe when used as directed like garden lime, while effective like hydrated lime.

DOES FSL REPEL SNAILS OR SLUGS?

Yes, our product works great against slugs and snails.

How is this different from ground limestone?

Ground limestone you can find at your local feed store and is called “dolomitic” “quarry lime” or “barn lime.” First Saturday Lime has been in a kiln, made from calcium hydroxide, and formulated to the point that it is concentrated and much stronger. We took hydrated lime and made it insoluble so it won’t cause a chemical reaction when it touches skin or fur. It is patent pending to be the best version of lime that has ever existed.

How is FSL different from other eco-friendly products?

FSL supports all eco-friendly products. We want to work side by side and provide useful solutions to our insect infestations. One main difference between FSL and other eco-friendly products is that FSL has no strong scent. The mode of action of FSL is not to repel by scent, but rather by physically touching the product. This can benefit those who are sensitive to odors or who want to isolate or treat certain plants in their garden without affecting the aroma. Thus you can have your roses and stop smell them too.

Is FSL safe around pets? What if they lick it off?

Yes, lime is safe for pets when used as directed, even if accidentally ingested.

When should I apply FSL?

We recommend that you apply FSL on the first Saturday of the month. We think this will help you remember to apply it regularly so those bugs stay gone! First Saturday Lime is most effective when applied year-round!

How do I apply FSL in the garden?

FSL helps prevent ants, mites, ticks, fleas, aphids, small hive beetles, lice and all other pests in gardens. Treat infested areas by dusting plants with FSL. Avoid petals and buds to continue welcoming pollinators. Wait at least 2 hours and gently rinse.

How do I apply FSL to a home, barn, shed, or building?

Apply FSL undiluted in a 2in. wide pour around the outside base of the building structure. This will create a pest barrier. Make sure to check the barrier and reapply if needed every month.

How do I apply FSL in the yard?

Using a yard spreader, cast 1 lb per 20 sq ft of FSL across a lawn for prevention of fleas and ticks. Apply monthly starting in the Spring to disrupt the growth cycle of the pests.

How do I apply FSL to ponds, bird baths, and water troughs?

Apply 1/8” of FSL evenly over the surface of the water to reduce algae and food for mosquitos. Product will permeate water and eventually settle on the bottom. May cause rust if left on metal. Do not use in pools and/or spas. The product is insoluble and may clog your filter.

How do I apply FSL in animal bedding?

FSL can help freshen and deodorize chicken coops, stables, barns, and kennels. Control moisture, insects, and odor by sprinkling 1/8” of the product across the bedding of your choice. FSL can be used on top or under mats. Increase amount until reaching desired effect. FSL may be used as an effective dust bath.

How much FSL should I put in my chicken coop?

We recommend applying a ⅛ inch layer of top of the surface area of the bedding of your choice as well as in the run to combat odor causing bacteria and moisture.

Does First Saturday Lime work on flies?

First Saturday Lime will repel flies; however, FSL is topical so if a fly lands on it, it should just leave the area! The best way to use First Saturday Lime for fly control is to spread FSL on your lawn as First Saturday Lime will dry out eggs and larvae to prevent more from hatching.

How much product do I need?

1 20lb bag should go around a 2000 sq ft house. (approximately)
Yard treatment: 1 lb will cover a 20 sq. ft. area.

Do I have to apply this every month?

It will be most effective if you reapply FSL every month!

Can first Saturday Lime be mixed with any animal bedding?

Yes, First Saturday Lime can be added to any animal bedding to aid moisture control and reduce odors, while repelling insects.

Can I add First Saturday Lime to my pool or sauna?

No. Because First Saturday Lime does not dissolve, it should not be used in pools or saunas. It may clog your pump’s filter. This is true for any system that has a motor and filter, which includes, but is not limited to pools, saunas, fish tanks, hot tubs, etc.

Can First Saturday Lime be used in reptile or amphibian habitats?

Yes, as long as you don’t want any insects to be compromised.

Will First Saturday Lime affect the pH levels in the soil around my trees and flowers?

First Saturday Lime will raise the pH levels of soil to which it is added. pH levels can only go as high as 7. Check with your garden expert to determine if a particular plant or tree benefits or is harmed by a high pH.

My well is near my foundation. Will this harm my water?

No, there are no known hazards with our product. It is approved for organic gardening and for food handling and preparation surfaces.

Can you mix it with vegetable garden soil? Will this hurt my plants?

Yes, you can and no, it won’t! Our formula is safe for plants, pets, and people when used as directed.

How should I NOT use First Saturday Lime?

Here are some things you should not do with FSL.

  • Do not inhaled over long periods of time without protective masks
  • Do not “dump” large amounts of the product directly to anything – be sure to spread or dilute based on your needs and desired results.
  • Do not use in your home – we do not offer warranties on your vacuum or furnishings
  • Do not ingest – this is not for consumption
  • Do not use in pools and/or spas – the product is insoluble and may clog your filter.

Why should I use this over other repellents (moth balls/cinnamon/boiling water)?

First Saturday Lime is less toxic than mothballs and is insoluble so will last longer than cinnamon and/or boiling water.

Can this be used indoors?

No, we recommend pouring First Saturday Lime on the outside of the barrier of the home to keep away unwanted pests.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is free if you start a subscription or spend more than $50! Any non-subscription orders less than $50 are $5.99.

How do we ship?

We ship UPS Ground and FedEx Express, so make sure you enter an address where UPS delivers. No PO Boxes. Usually it is a 3 day delivery.

Can FSL be shipped to locations outside the United States?

We regret that we are unable to do this now, but hope to do so in the future.

When does an order ship?

Your order will be processed with 5 business days, depending on volume. You’ll receive an email with tracking information once our warehouse team begins working on your order. Please note that orders placed on the weekend will be processed the following week. Please note orders places on or right after the 23rd, may take longer time processing due to subscriptions renewing on the 23rd. Due to staffing challenges and global supply chain issues, shipping carriers are seeing significant delays of up to 2-10 days. Please be patient with your package, and consider buying in-person from one of our retail partners if you need your items urgently.

Why isn't my tracking link working?

Please allow 24 hours after your order is shipped for tracking to update. If you are still seeing issues after that, please reach out to us at info@firstsaturdaylime.com.

What should I do if my shipment does not come?

You can check on the status of your shipment with the tracking number you receive in the email we send you when it ships. While the most efficient way to find an update will be through the carrier (FedEx or UPS), you are also welcome to contact us about it and we will do what we can to track it down.

How can I edit my shipping address?

Once our warehouse starts processing the order, it’s difficult to catch it before it goes out the door—but we’re happy to try! Please reach out to us at info@firstsaturdaylime.com as soon as possible and we’ll see what we can do. If you have already received a tracking number, we recommend creating a UPS MyChoice account which will allow you to update your address, ship to a UPS Access Point instead, request a future delivery date, receive an alert the dary before delivery, receive an alert of a 4 hour delivery window, and more!

What should I do if my UPS shipment says it has arrived but I don’t have it?

You can contact your local UPS office so they can assist you. You are also welcome to contact us about it and we will do all we can to track it down.
